So, this is, technically, an unreleased Demo of the second song that was ever written for Go Fight. Everything in it was rough and it was really only about 6 tracks or so to communicate the core idea of the song so we could discuss it and figure out if we really wanted to play things like this.

I had written a few songs with Die Warzau that we shelved because they were just too raunchy and didn’t fit what we were doing. I thought they were important, though. Die Warzau just wasn’t that- raunchy. But it was up to us, at this point, to figure out what Go Fight was. I had more ideas about some songs I wanted to do that were very dirty and sort of celebrated my own pansexuality in ways that I hadn’t been able to before while commenting on important issues. At that point, I already had the lyrics written for ‘Gay on the Dance Floor” and a few other songs, some of which haven’t come out yet. One of them, “LA California” was a song about traveling to California to work in porn. An earlier song, “Plastic Man,” became a song by a project called Everplastic because it was considered too raunchy (it was about pegging).

Fuck Like a Movie Star was written as a really snide assessment of the state of pharmacology as it relates to the search for the holy grail- the perfect erection. This is a 5 billion dollar business and it’s pursued with a fervor that could cure HIV or breast cancer in 25 minutes. Who knew old white men had such sway over the corporations around us?

Anyways. We listened and decided that it fit, if we were gong to write more songs like this. It was a strange place to try and reconcile songs like ‘We are the Enemy,” hard and political, with songs like this. After jamming on some lyric ideas, we decided that this gave us a lot of freedom to mix up politics and raunch. We wrote “Sex Theology then (originally just called “getting it on,” until Vince renamed it.) which was an extremely raunchy and sarcastic first person account of Catholic Church sex abuses.

This led us to the lyrics. In the third verse we rote:

Which we recognized was offensive as all get out. But it also felt like it was something that the character singing this song WOULD connect with. This was the search for the next erection. The unt for sexual gratification. So we talked to a couple of trans friends who all recognized the humor in it- the outside POV and told us they thought it wouldn’t offend.

This is the simplest way, I think, to express this song. After releasing this album, we got an email from some kids who wanted to play a cover of this song at their prom, likely to piss off their teachers. But they were freaked out by how many little sounds and parts were in it. So I sent them this. It’s really a very simple song. And the lyrics certainly aren’t pulitzer prize winning. But I like them for their crass commercificaton of erections.
